On September 29, 2025, Unity Health Toronto paused, as they do every year, to celebrate the feast of St. Michael at its downtown hospital named after the Archangel Michael. Every year, this saint’s feast day provides an opportune time to remember Unity’s mission and values. Unity Health Toronto is one of Canada’s largest Catholic health care systems.

This year, Unity Health Toronto had the pleasure of welcoming Bishop Robert Kasun, auxiliary bishop of Toronto for the central region of the archdiocese. Bishop Kasun celebrated the Eucharist in the hospital’s chapel. Patients, their families, staff, physicians, volunteers and members of Unity’s leadership team attended. With music, prayer and a deep sense of gratitude, Unity took time to remember and renew its commitment to the “best care experiences, created together,” which is its vision.

During Mass, Bishop Kasun thanked and blessed the many people who provide this critical health service in the heart of our city. He reminded those gathered of the decades upon decades of care, originally founded by the Sisters of St. Joseph. Thanks to those prophetic religious sisters, and the support of our local Cardinal, Unity continues to carry forward its mission of care for those most in need, especially those experiencing severe inequities. Bishop Kasun also thanked the five Unity staff and teams who were being celebrated later in the afternoon for living the five values of Unity at the Our Shared Value Awards. It is through this kind of commitment by dedicated staff that the healing ministry of Jesus continues to this day.
